This will be the most unusual and interesting auctionthat we have held in many years, with a wide selection of articles, which include a canapé by Pierre Antoine Bellange rescued from the “Chetwode” fire of 1946.
(“Chetwode” was John Jacob Astor’s mansion), chairs by Angelica Kauffmann and Bobois, portraits of two young boys by a pupil of Sir Joshua Reynolds, North Shore (Boston), secretary and card tables, New England tiger maple furniture, cast iron lawn and garden sets, nautical articles (painted chests, collection of whale oil lamps).
FOLK ART IS EXCEPTIONALLY STRONG, WITH MANY ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE HOOKED RUGS, needlepoint works, whirligigs, art pottery.
