DAY ONE opens with Asian arts, including Kangxi era Chinese porcelains from George & Abby O’Neill (Rockefeller), rare Royal Thai enamelware from the Martinez-Fonts Collection, and 16th c. Ming lacquer ware and jades from 760 Park Ave.; English and American art featuring a complete ‘Thames Set’ of etchings by J.A.M Whistler from the Leonard D. Hamilton Collection, and oil paintings by John Constable, Percy Earl, Alfred Bryan Wall, and Charles Chapin,; a group of antiquities includes fine examples of Greek, Egyptian, and Pre-Columbian pottery and sculptures, many acquired from Sotheby Parke-Bernet Galleries.
DAY TWO features modern art and design, including an incredible 230+ lot single owner collection of mid-century art books, many with signed etchings and original drawings by Matisse, Leger, Picasso, Dali, Giacometti, Hans Bellmer, and others. Artwork from the Leonard D. Hamilton Collection includes three Graham Sutherland portfolios, sculptures by Sir Jacob Epstein, and prints by Lyonel Feininger, Pierre Soulages, Miro, Emil Nolde, and Gaugain. Design highlights include signed Eugene Printz lounge chairs, signed Diego Giacometti bronze pieces, custom lamps by Robsjohn-Gibbings, and Richard Blow mosaics.
DAY THREE features fine French and Continental furnishings from 760 Park Ave, 19th c. automatons including a rare Roullet et Decamps musical magician, a collection of 17th c. Russian icons, and an exciting group of art photography including two important Pablo Picasso hand etched works, Man Ray photos from his personal collection, and two rare 1930s Consuelo Kanago portraits of black America.
