Mike Clum Auctions Inc. is pleased to offer at auction a second selection of highlights from the late Dr. Murrell Lewis collection of rare and collectible books. Begun over sixty years ago, the Lewis collection was a sophisticated and ambitious collection. Dr. Lewis often secured books either in exceptional collector’s condition or books that were special or unique in some way. There are 200 books offered in this sale and are almost all first editions, many are signed or inscribed, many are limited editions, and many are unique copies. This selection is especially strong in American and British literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but there are rare and collectible books here from many areas, including science, exploration, history, children’s literature, and others. In this sale highlights include Machiavelli’s The Prince: True 1st English Edition, Crevecoeur’s Letters from an American Farmer, a beautiful, nearly mint copy of Ernest Hemingway’s scarce first book Three Stories and Ten Poems, plus A Farewell to Arms (signed), Mormon History Times and Seasons vols. 5 & 6, William Faulkner The Sound and the Fury, John Steinbeck The Pastures of Heaven, Joseph Conrad Typhoon and Other Stories, a substantial Hart Crane letter, and an important collection of Weldon Kees manuscripts. Also on offer will be first editions or limited editions signed by Ford Madox Ford, D H Lawrence, Albert Einstein About Zionism, Weldon Kees, James Joyce and numerous others.
