NEW YORK CITY — On June 20, Auctions at Showplace will offer 280 lots directly from New York City and Metropolitan estates, including a selection of fine art, furniture and decorative arts.
Highlights of the June 20 auction begin with a work by the American artist, Clementine Hunter. “Folk Art Still Life,” oil on board, that depicts a floral bouquet in a cup and is signed with the artist’s monogram in the lower right. Featured lots continue with a Marc Chagall etching printed in colors, titled “Le Pierrot,” circa 1968. The work features a whimsical scene of figures and is signed in pencil and numbered 32/50 and includes a certificate of authenticity on the back. Highlights conclude with a Pablo Picasso ceramic “Chouetton” vase. The glazed terre-de-faience piece depicts a “Chouetton” or young wood-owl, painted in brown and black. The vase is from an edition of 500 and is inscribed “Edition Picasso” and features the “Madoura Plien Feu” stamp.
Remaining fine art includes a lithograph titled “Reine de Joie” by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The color lithograph depicts three seated figures and is printed on two joined sheets of wove paper, signed on lower left. An untitled Nineteenth Century French School oil on paper depicts a seated figure in an interior space, attributed to Pierre Francois Eugene Giraud.
The work features the gallery label, W.M. Brady & Co, Inc., and one for Sotheby’s, New York, on the frame reverse. Fine art highlights conclude with a lithograph in color titled “La Theiere” by Zao Wou-Ki, circa 1952. The lithograph features a still life scene of a teapot and fruits and is signed in pencil.
Furniture highlights begin with a pair of Rino Levi Midcentury Modern caviuna wood armchairs covered in faux-suede upholstery and featuring tufted back detailing. The chairs are followed by a pair of Brazilian midcentury armchairs featuring jacaranda wood and aluminum frames with gray faux-suede upholstery and tufted back detailing. Furniture highlights conclude with an Italian neoclassical parquetry inlaid commode with intricate details and banded borders.
The June 20 sale includes a collection of gold jewelry featuring diamonds and other precious and semiprecious stones. Featured lots begin with a vintage Cartier 18K yellow gold Tank wristwatch, featuring the original black lizard strap and traditional white Roman numeral dial. Followed by a pair of David Webb vintage 18K yellow gold hammer-finish shell form clip earrings. Featured fine jewelry concludes with a pair of Boris Lebeau 18K yellow gold heart shaped clip earrings with an open latticework design.
Featured luxury goods include a limited-edition Chanel Tibet flap handbag, circa 2008-09, featuring Mongolian lamb fur and patent leather. Luxury goods continue with a Chanel vintage black quilted leather handbag with gold-tone hardware, a Hermes vintage black crocodile Pullman Handbag, circa 1940s, as well as a Celine black leather “Belt” handbag. Luxury goods are competed with a collection of Chanel leather and chain belts.
