JORDAN, N.Y. — End of an era. With the sale of the contents of the historic “Cobblestone Manor,” the region is seeing the end of another time and another way of life that most of us can only imagine.
Cobblestone Manor is a historic dwelling built by John Munro in 1850. It is on the corner of New York State Route 5 and Hamilton Road.
When Dr William Drake passed away in 2020, he left a legacy to be remembered. With operating five dental offices in central New York, one would think that “Bill,” as he was known, would not have the time for any other interests, yet he was a collector. His coin collection was sold at Sotheby’s and his military vehicle collection went to buyers around the world. Now it is down to Bill’s heart — the contents of “The Manor.” He spent decades assembling the things to furnish the manor, attending local auctions and estate sales, visiting antiques shops and shows for years looking for treasures to bring home to his fortress.
Drake held degrees from Temple, Pennsylvania and Cornell Universities, He was a US military pilot, dentist, antiques and art collector, hunter, fisherman, coin collector and general adventurer. As a hobby in his “off time” he avidly employed a metal detector, getting permission to search the grounds around early houses looking for lost treasures. He was a passionate man. It showed in all his endeavors.
Bidders will have a chance to see and own the contents of Drake’s beloved “Manor.” Built in 1850 in an apple orchard, using thousands of cobblestones, the Gothic Revival home boasts six fireplaces, two formal parlors and nine bedrooms. The real estate has been sold, and so must the contents of the manor and its barns. An “old timer” who has seen the house first-hand commented that “this was like auctions that we used to see back in the 1960s.”
The event is being handled by Estate Consultants in an online-only auction on October 29. View the contents of the home in the firm’s catalog at www.estateconsultants123.hibid.com. For information, email estateconsultantsinfo@gmail.com or 315-727-6115.
