Across New England, cool autumn nights encourage wood fires and a good book
or two to be read beside them. To that end, the next Connecticut River Book Auction
will be held as a live in-person event Friday, November 5th and promises readers of
firearms, archeology, art, history, and fiction much to enjoy.
For those interested in firearms we have over a dozen lots ranging from Chamberlain
& Taylerson (1989) “Revolvers of the British Services 1854-1954” to a signed 1st
edition of Meadows (1993) “U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894 – 1920.” Looking
for a kinder and gentler evenings reading experience, then consider Emery’s (1932) “Twinkle Town Tales” or Burgess’ (1933) “The Adventures of Buster Bear,” both in dustjackets. Imagining a South American trip to experience the culture of the indigenous tribes, then consider reading Wilbert & Simoneau (1987) “Folk Literature of the Chamacoco Indians,” or (1990) “Folk Literature of the Yaruro Indians,” and finish your preparation with “Folk Literature of the GE Indians.”
Just want a good read, then pick up copies of Harrison’s (2002) “Offto the Side,” and (1994) “Julip,” both are uncorrected proofs signed by him. Never read Conroy’s (1980) “The Lords of Discipline,” this auction has a signed 1st edition copy in dustjacket along with “Mark Twain’s Sketches New and Old,” the 1st edition, 2nd state and a 1st edition of “Pudd’nhead Wilson.” And then there are several lots of Burroughs books ranging from the 1935 “Tarzan and the Leopard Men” to the 1935 “Lost on Venus,” both are 1st editions in dustjackets.
For those with more esoteric tastes this auction offers the reader a signed, limited edition, of Cuperman & Roth’s “No Todo es Nirvana en la Calle Corrientes, Baby,” housed in a clamshell case.
Or consider a fine Allen Press copy of Aeschylus (1982-83) “The Oresteian Trilogy: Agamemnon, Choephoroi, Eumendes,” published in two volumes and housed in a slipcase.
Finally, we have a scarce copies of Ishill (1937) “Free Vistas Vol. II: A Libertarian Outlook on Life & Letters,” that was limited to 205 copies and Dard’s (1939) “Papermaking by Hand in India,” a limited edition in slipcase #354 of 370 copies, signed by the author and publisher with the Prospectus and other correspondence included. Oh, did we mention we have a really nice-looking tabletop book press?
