BEDFORD, N.Y. — More than 800 lots from local estates will cross the block at Butterscotch Auction on November 21. Headlined by Arnoldo Pomodoro’s architectonic “Asse Del Movimento 1,” the fine art selection includes works by Hunt Slonum, Rene Seyssaud, Reynolds Beal, William Scott, Marcos Grigorian, Benjamin Lira and many others; plus several paintings by Robert Jessup and an Alexander Calder tapestry. A number of Old Master paintings will also be offered, including a Seventeenth Century Anglo-Dutch school portrait of Mary, Queen of Scots.
The selection of furniture and décor ranges from rare Seventeenth Century finds to Midcentury Modern. Noteworthy pieces include a New England William and Mary walnut highboy, an ebonized penwork pedestal games table, a Federal serpentine inlaid chest of drawers, a George II inlaid slant lid burl desk and a Renaissance Revival figural campaign chair. More modern designs include a Pierre Chapo T21D Table, a curious Yves Marthelot mosaic table, and more by Bertoia, Eames, Alain Bertau, Milo Baughman and others.
A monumental Louis Vuitton steamer trunk highlights the decorative arts selection at 55 inches tall. Notable lots include a unique pair of Adam-style urn-form knife boxes, a George III shell tea caddy in the form of a knife box, Galle enameled glass and a Royal Crown Derby “Old Imari” dinner service. Highlights among the clocks include a Charles Oudin Louis XIV-style boule inlaid bracket clock and a bracket clock by Grayhurst Harvey & Co. Many rugs will also be offered — two favorites of gallery owner Paul D. Marinucci are an early Twentieth Century Mahal carpet and a Chinese Peking carpet.
Among the selection of Asian Arts is a Han dynasty black pottery amphora vase, as well as other early Chinese pottery pieces. Scroll paintings, Chinese porcelain, a pair of late Qing jardinières, Japanese woodblock prints and more will be featured.
More than 100 lots of jewelry include a collection of amber, Byzantine gold and Roman glass bracelets. Finely designed diamond and gold jewelry dazzle alongside timepieces from Rolex, Cartier, Baume & Mercier, Chopard and more. Multiple owners came forward with three unique collections of gold coins, including a 1908 $20 Walking Liberty and a 1911 $10 Indian Head.
Other notable mentions include a collection of canes, featuring a unique spyglass walking stick with a bone cue-ball handle with extendable eyepiece. A retired producer and musician who toured with many acts in the 1960s and 1970s consigned a rare collection of vintage posters from the Kaleidoscope Club, the 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival, a 1966 Howlin Wolf performance at the Avalon and others.
Also up for bid are fine bindings, flapper dresses and other couture, sterling silver, urns and garden items, antique toys, and Russian icons, militaria.
This auction will be conducted at 608 Old Post Road, beginning at 10 am EST, with live, online and phone bidding. For further information, 914-764-4609 or www.butterscotchauction.com.
