NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. — Paul McInnis Auctioneer has assembled a collection of Civil War and historic documents from several local estates to include a George Washington signed three language ship’s passport. Comprising this, a general sword, early books, artwork, silver and jewelry, the sale’s bidding ends December 14 at 10 am.
A July 7, 1794, John Hancock signed pamphlet, “An Oration Delivered March 5, 1774, at the Request of the Inhabitants of the Town of Boston to Commemorate the Bloody Tragedy of the Fifth of March, 1770” will cross the block, as well as signed letters by President Rutherford B. Hayes and a Civil War officer’s sword by Tiffany and Co. belonging to Brigadier-General Frederic Winthrop, who was killed at the Battle of Five Forks, together with a memorial service pamphlet, photograph, memorial badge, stirrups and flag staff. A selection of Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century books and other items is featured.
Other notable items include a selection of artwork to include paintings, Old Master prints and lithographs by Wells M. Sawey, H. Mageret, C. Hoffenbauer, Mrs Jerome Thompson, Margaret Fitz Hugh Browne, Hagop Chakrian, L. Brae Kebell, Herman van Swanevelt, (Giovanni) Piranesi, Oskar Laske, Max Pollak, Gabriel Spat, Fernando Zobel and many illegible signatures.
There is a large selection of jewelry, including an assortment of 23 David Yurman gold and silver necklaces; bracelets; earrings; enhancers and rings. Several gold bracelets and necklaces, diamond and multi-stone rings, designer and other costume jewelry and more will be offered.
The unreserved auction will take place online-only at www.paulmcinnis.com. There will be an in-person inspection of the items on location in North Hampton for registered bidders only. Note: Inspections will be conducted in compliance with the NH Covid-19 Guidance parameters in force at the time of the inspection.

Frederic Winthrop was killed April 1, 1865, while fighting at the head of his troops at the Battle of Five Forks, VA, and was a descendant of Massachusetts Bay Colony governor John Winthrop.
