PRINCETON, N.J. — Dana Auctions announced that its next cataloged textile auction on February 26 will include more than 70 textiles from the estate of Laura Fisher. Offered will be a collection of quilts and other bedcoverings and textiles from the late Eighteenth Century to the late Twentieth Century.
This will be the first of the firm’s auctions to include textiles from the estate of Laura Fisher, a New York-based quilt expert, dealer and author who passed away in New York City on September 29, 2021, at the age of 76. Her antique quilts were exhibited all over the globe, she made appearances with Martha Stewart, and was published in several magazines over the years. In offering these textiles for sale Dana Auctions hopes to continue to honor her legacy of style and scholarship. The house’s March and April auctions will feature a vintage clothing collection and additional textiles from the estate. South Bay Auctions in Long Island will be selling 400 quilts from the estate in the spring.
The February 26 auction will include late Eighteenth Century Trapunto quilts, a selection of crib-sized quilts, an unused late Nineteenth Century Log Cabin quilt, patriotic textiles, Pendleton and Beacon blankets and much more from the estate.
Other highlights include an 1846 Philadelphia Signature quilt, a circa 1850s Tulip quilt, spool cabinets and an 1890s English naval sailor’s instructional bandana.
“I remember Laura as being so passionate about textiles. She appreciated how textiles were true material culture and how important they are to history,” said Dana Balsamo, owner and auctioneer at Dana Auctions. “I was so sad to hear of her passing, she was dear friend and colleague for many years. I am glad we have the opportunity to bring these textiles to the market for collectors to remember her and share her legacy.”
The auction will be live and simulcasted online on February 26, starting at 11 am ET.
Preview is by appointment through February 24, and an open house preview is set for February 25 from 11 am to 8 pm.
Auctions are conducted at 3490 US Route 1 North, Suite 11C. For information, 732-221-3560 or www.danaauctions.com.
