Furniture, Paintings, Rugs, Rarities from estates in New York City, Newport, Jamestown and Mystic, CT. Many people spoke favorably about our March auction, and this sale should be even stronger.
Articles include Flemish and English carved pieces, vargueno, cassones, set of 8 American Chippendale dining chairs, more marquetry than we have seen in some time, three sailors’ valentines, Atmos clocks (2). Paintings by Lillian Cotton, Edna Palmer Engelhardt, Henry Faulkner, Peter Monamy, Henry Parker, Arthur Sarnoff (2). The Florida Highwaymen are represented by the two founders Alfred Hair and Henry Newton, each by a large painting. Also featured are many 19th Century Japanese watercolors by Arasaw, Tanauchi, Nicco Yoshido consigned by a relative of President Woodrow Wilson. Books of drawings by Bigot. Rari- ties are an Inuit school-of-fish carving, Pairpoint lamp with 18” shade, collections of Battersea boxes, miniature turtles and baskets. A Herend dinner service will be offered at 11:30. Rugs, of course will go early. We classify them as “rare” as we don’t get many Bijars, and there are 3 of them in the sale. There are no “Made in Aran” Hamadans or Spartas, but rather antique and semi-antique Caucasians and elderly Persians, which are rough but still serviceable.
