CLINTONDALE, N.Y. — Kensington Estate Auctions’ Monday, April 11, online auction will provide a wide array of art and objets d’art. The auction is replete with art, Persian rugs, antiquarian books, photographs, Nineteenth Century Americana, Native American beaded artifacts, sculptures, dolls, manuscripts, British historical documents, stamp collections and more.
Americana offerings include a collection of Civil War carte de visite photographs, including images of Abraham Lincoln, General Grant and General Sherman. In addition, the sale offers a patriotic theorem painting; several early Nineteenth Century samplers; Hudson River landscapes and still life paintings; tramp art cupboard; Lady Liberty and Black Americana andirons; Nineteenth Century jacquard coverlet and others.
For the book collector, the antiquarian book section includes an 1860 Curry & Rice; Lions of New York, 1853; Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol, 1843; original handwritten manuscript: Maria & Her Son; Jean Champollion’s Precis Du Systeme Hieroglyphique, 1824; Montorgueil’s Les Trois Couleurs, 1900s; and a diverse collection of art books. Autographed books include In Search of the Wild Indians signed by Tom Driebe and several inscribed books of Maurice Sendak.
Highlighting the auction will be two Eighteenth–early Nineteenth Century European Old Master paintings; large mural painting after Rousseau’s “The Snake Charmer”; Nineteenth Century painted tole nautical coal scuttle; Heriz rugs; animal sculptures by Anna Huntington; a unique erotic hermaphrodite carving; American Plains Indian beaded artifacts; and R. Wagner original drawings of the Sino-Japanese War.
Spanning the globe are Nineteenth Century Indian low table and chairs with carved rosette; large pair of Nineteenth Century Chinese carved architectural elements; Burmese Kalaga embroidered elephant processional tapestry; antique Meiji period dolls; Chinese articulated carved figure/doll and Pop art counterculture paintings by Igor Baskakov.
Historians will appreciate the British collection of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth memorabilia; photographs taken by a World War II RAF Lieutenant, Nineteenth Century Royal Presentation Book with fore-edge painting of Windsor Castle and works by British artists.
Bidders will not want to miss the Moorcroft porcelain; Staffordshire biscuit barrels; Art Nouveau Nineteenth Century Royal Dux Bohemia vase; Manises Faience Zoomorphic urn; and Nineteenth Century German KPM portrait plaques.
For the collector of original photographs there will be Golden Age of MGM Studio photographs by Irwin Bueller and those of Lida Moser.
