NEW YORK CITY — Auctions at Showplace will present a summer estate auction on August 7. The auction brings together 280 lots of fine art, decorative arts, furnishings, jewelry and luxury goods.
Highlights open with an etching with collage on handmade paper by Spanish artist Manolo Valdes (b 1942). Titled “Serie Helene,” the piece from the “Helena” series depicting ladies inspired by the work of Velasquez, “Las Meninas,” is number 25 of 50. Next is a Charles X flame-mahogany veneered cabinet with a white marble top and one long drawer above two book-matched, veneered cabinet doors on a molded conforming plinth with bun feet. The piece has provenance from Les Deux Iles Antiques and the New York collection of Ken and Jill Iscol. Also of note is a Tiffany & Co. sterling silver partial dinner service in the Bamboo pattern totaling 76 pieces.
Fine art highlights open with a Pop Art mixed media in red and gold acrylic paint with extensive college elements on canvas titled “Suddenly I See” by American artist Peter Tunney. Pop Art continues with two works by American artist Stephanie Hirsch. The first is a mixed media on canvas titled “It’s Never Too Late” from the artist’s “Lust Series” depicting embroidered lips with rhinestones on a black ground, circa 2012. Next is a mixed media artwork mounted on a heart-shaped canvas composed of black, white, silver and gold tone beads forming sacred geometric shapes with a central Evil Eye motif.

Fine art continues with an untitled still life oil on canvas by Argentinian artist Raul Russo, an oil on panel harbor scene by American artist Caroline M. Bell and four lots of colorful woodblock prints by Japanese artist Umetaro Azechi. Also featured is a Rufino Tamayo woodblock in colors depicting a minimalist abstract bird.
