NEW YORK CITY — La Belle Epoque Auction, located in the Meatpacking District of the West Village, has announced its first new auction since suffering extreme water damage in the spring of this year. The water damage was caused by a small fire in the space above La Belle Epoque, which set off sprinkler systems for an extended period of time, causing major flooding in the space below with portions of the ceiling literally caving in.
On Saturday, August 13, at 10 am, however, La Belle Epoque is back in the game with its first new live online-only multi-estates summer auction featuring more than 300 lots with a varied selection of fine art, decorative items, furniture, Midcentury Modern pieces and silver.
Conducting this auction online-only is only temporary until the auction house resumes in-person auctions in the 5,000-square -foot commercial space, currently under renovations from the damage.
Some highlights of the August 13 sale will include a pair of Nineteenth Century Chinese green jade carved elephants ($700/900), a Jaeger Le Coultre Atmos clock, circa 1961 ($600/800,) an American Twentieth Century Art Deco giltwood carved lion perched on a wood base ($250/450) and a Bagues-style ballooning fixture six-light chandelier ($600/800).
Furniture pieces will include a pair of French Empire-style open arm chairs of fruitwood carved with dolphin arm rests, raised on four splayed legs, now over upholstered with chinoiserie style fabric ($500/700), a cabinet maker’s sample Nineteenth Century miniature lowboy/dressing table in Queen Anne style, raised on four cabriole legs terminating on Dutch pad feet ($300/500) and a pair of Midcentury
Modern Kartell masters open armchairs, mustard colored ($300/500).
In the art arena, the firm will offer a Cuzco School oil on canvas depicting an allegorical scene with multiple figures ($1/2,000), while in silver, a set of Kirk sterling silver flatware, 102 pieces ($2,5/3,000) will cross the block with a Nineteenth Century Russian silver and gold cigarette case ($350/450).
Also covering vintage fashion, an Hermes silk scarf “Joirehiver” of silk twill ($400/600) and an Italian Celine vintage silk scarf with red border and jockey motif ($300/400) will be featured.
