The December 17-18 auction will be led with Design, with a large selection of pottery, including several pieces by Toshiko Takaezu. Beyond pottery and glass, there will also be a fine collection of furniture, including a Mathews Furniture Shops fall front desk estimated at $3,5/4,500.
Clars is excited to offer one of Marc Chagall’s (French, 1887-1985) highest selling lithographs in its December sale, “Carmen,” estimated at $30/40,000. The 1966 print was an adaptation of the artist’s mural “Triumph of Music,” one of two works commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Two ceramic pitchers by Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973) titled “Visage” and “Quatre Visage,” were both produced at the Madoura de Vallauris workshop in the 1950s and have the Picasso and Madoura stamped beneath. They will be offered at $6/9,000 and $4/6,000, respectively.
