Merrill’s Auctioneers and Appraisers is pleased to offer Early American and Canadian furniture, paintings, accessories, books, & ephemera from two New Hampshire collector’s estates, jewelry from a private New York City collection, an outstanding collection of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblocks from the estate of Margaret “Peg” Marcy of Hardwick, VT, pieces from an old Rouses Point, NY collection, pieces from the estate of Chester “Chet” Carpenter of Newport, VT, as well as fine antiques, glass, china, silver, and Oriental rugs from other area homes & estates.
Of special interest is a spectacular nearly complete set of 28 Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints of Samurai “Yoshitoshi’s Courageous Warriors”, Ukiyo-e by Hiroshige & Hokusai, a Mughal Indo-Persian gold and enamel wide collar necklace studded with diamonds, rubies, & pearls- a gift to J J Astor VI’s wife (Ellen Tuck “Tucky” French 1915–1974) from Indian Prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, descending directly in the Astor family, a massive 33 ct aquamarine brooch, and an Old European cut 3.2 ct diamond solitaire ring. The sale will also include Vermont paintings and prints, including Sabra (Johnson) Field, a Riviere Studios Butterfly leaded shade table lamp, a stunning large Patek Phillipe 18k Chronometer Gondolo pocket watch, vintage wristwatches, and more!
