BEVERLY, MASS. — Kaminski Auctions will host a two-day auction on September 16 and 17, starting at 11 am Eastern time at the firm’s auction gallery. The star lot of the auction is a circa 1920s-30s Art Deco diamond, emerald and onyx platinum bracelet with a total diamond weight of approximately 12.66 carats from a New York collection.
In addition, there are several Ansel Adams silver gelatin prints on offer, owned by Dennis Curtin, who worked for book publisher Little and Brown of Boston, producing several projects with Adams. Curtin’s photographs in this auction were gifts given to him by Ansel Adams The artist gave many of these prints as gifts to the consignor at a meeting at his home in Carmel, Calif., in 1973. One of Adams’ most famous images is titled “Moonrise,” Hernandez, NM. It is an unsigned original with “silver mirroring,” which occurs when the silver in the photo degrades on the surface. There is a silver gelatin print of “El Capitan, Yosemite Valley, CA, Winter, 1948” and another of “Tenaya Lake, Mt Conness, Yosemite National Park, California, 1946”; both were gifts after a visit to Adams’ gallery in 1972. There is also a first edition deluxe issue of Ansel Adams, Images 1923-74 with a signed photo of “Fern Springs Dusk in Yosemite Valley.”
Highlights of the European furniture from a southern Connecticut collection include a pair of Twentieth Century Renaissance upholstered giltwood gondola benches, a pair of French carved giltwood chairs having needlepoint upholstery, with matching settee, a pair of French corner cabinets with the Paris label on the back and assorted Nineteenth Century Italian marble pedestals and French Empire candelabra.
English Regency furniture from a Boston collection features a Nineteenth Century English Regency mahogany cylinder writing desk with a brass gallery top, a Regency mahogany sofa with brass inlay and a late Eighteenth Century/early Nineteenth Century English mahogany linen press.
Kaminski Auctions’ Asian specialist has amassed more than 100 lots of Chinese porcelains for sale, two Qi Baishi (1863-1957) books of drawings and one by Zhao Shao’ang.
Silver in the auction features a service for 12 Gorham sterling flatware, a “Secret Garden” pattern from 1959 and a Chaudron & Rasch sterling silver three-piece tea set, circa 1810, from Philadelphia.
Other lots in the sale include an early Twentieth Century European School portrait of two children, an oil on canvas valued at $3/5,000, an early Nineteenth Century Austrian or French harp and an E. Goyard Paris trunk. The auction also features a group of ethnic artifacts of a world traveler.
