STAMFORD, CONN. — Cultivated from more than 20 local estates and collectors, ACES Gallery’s fall fine and decorative arts auction on October 15 has a little something for everyone.
Fine art offerings range from colorful contemporaries like Morris Davidson (1989-1979), Bruno Krauskopf (1892-1960) and Arthur Luiz Piza (1928-2017) to more classical tastes, including a copy of “Madonna Della Seggiola (after Raphael)” by George Drah (1867-1922) a luminous courtyard scene from Ferdinand Brunner (1870-1945) and an extensive collection of American and European still life paintings.
The sale also features a selection of Chinese porcelains and antiques from Greenwich, Conn., and Westchester, N.Y., estates, including a celadon jade figural group, a spinach jade covered bowl, a group of three ancestral portraits and famille rose and blue and white vases and jars.
A rare enameled glass window in a bronze frame by Art Nouveau master Hector Guimard (1867-1942) leads the way for decorative arts, bolstered by examples of marquetry tea caddies, French and American clocks, candlesticks, Steuben glass and much more.
Rugs and carpets will also cross the block, including an antique Tabriz carpet with pattern of leaves, vines and animals, and an antique northwest Persian carpet with an overall pattern of guls.
A selection of Midcentury Modern design features furniture by Illum Wikkelso and Tue Poulson, as well as a modular wall unit and a minimalist aluminum and oak lamp. Similar tastes will be sated by wood carvings, brazed brass and modern bronze sculptures.
Book collectors will find delight in a collection of books on book collecting. From the same library hail many first editions, leather bindings and other volumes, including an 1882 edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Volumes on angling and other fishing subjects follow a collection of fishing lures along with an Edward Vom Hofe vintage fishing reel and an Orvis bamboo rod.
The auction will begin at 11 am ET. Bidding is available online, by telephone or absentee bidding. Preview is available by appointment. For information, www.aces.net or 914-222-8686.
