MEDWAY, MASS. — Coyle’s Auction will start the New Year with a live two-session antique estates auction on Tuesday, January 16. The auction will include an eclectic mix of American antique and other furniture, artwork, porcelain, silver, Chinese export, bronzes and much more drawn from a large Needham estate, Sherborn homestead, Lexington and Malden collector’s home with selected additions. Hundreds of fresh-to-the-market offerings will be presented with no reserves and no internet bidding.

The Session I books, rugs and curiosities auction begins at 2:30 pm and will feature approximately 25 lots of antique and vintage books from a private estate library to include Luther Burbank’s 12 volumes of His Methods and Discoveries; 32 volumes of J. Fenimore Cooper’s Descriptive Tales, 1872; 11 volumes of Dispatches of Field Marshal, Duke of Wellington, 1837; four books on Senator Hoar together with books with bookplates of George Frisbie Hoar; Baby Elephant portfolio Audubon’s Birds of America by Peterson; and various other book lots. Also in this portion of Session I is a 1912 real-photo baseball postcard of Louis Sockalexis with text “Louis Sockalexis Penobscot Tribe olde Towne, ME/ Copyrighted 1912 by A.R. Orr of Old Town, ME,” as well as a Garton Casey Jones Cannonball express pedal car, Soligen E.W. Holler sword, Oriental rugs, vintage stable with Schoenhut horses and many interesting curiosity lots from estates.

Highlighting the Session II estates auction beginning at 5 pm will be an American carved and inlaid bowfront North Shore (possibly Salem, Mass.) sideboard, antique American mahogany blockfront desk with interior, Federal mahogany single-drawer bowfront side table with carved posts, pair of antique tall rosewood four-door classical library bookcases, two antique tall clocks, including a cherry example with dial signed Nath. Mulliken Lexington (Mass.) and Scottish Philip Corrie (Langholm) tall clock, 1788, signed and branded Eldred Wheeler porringer tiger maple dining table and matching set of six tiger maple dining chairs. In addition, there are several antique chests, chairs, cabinets etc., as well as other quality furniture.

Accessories and items of special interest in Session II will include a late Nineteenth Century French spotted hobby horse, two pieces of vintage Louis Vuitton luggage/trunk, vintage S.T. Dupont Paris laque de chine travel clock, porcelains of various makers and forms to include Meissen, Chinese export, Limoges game and fish set signed Muville, early crown mark Royal Worcester dinner plates, large Dresden multi-figural group and other Dresden type figures, Teplitz 21-inch bust of a woman with crown Edouard Stellenmacher ’97, as well as a 25-inch Amphora vase with maiden, antique bronze figures, marble and alabaster figural lamp, busts, etc. In addition, an antique 3rd Battalion The Queens Drum 15-inch height, bisque head French Fashion doll, six early Nineteenth Century samplers and pair of 28-inch-long wooden hand painted geese and more will be offered.

There will be a selection of artwork, including several antique portraits: an oil on canvas of Daniel Webster seated and holding a document in period gilt carved frame, a portrait of young girl labeled Mary L. Daniels (Worcester, Mass.) by Lyman Sykes, a portrait of a ship captain, a portrait of a gentleman Thomas Roberts Of St Asaph, woman with ivy wreath signed S.A. Dendar, 1857, oval of young girl with a basket of flowers on her head in a rose carved frame, a portrait of a child seated with fruit and a collection of various miniature painted portraits, including European royalty, maidens etc.

Other art to be included will be four primitive whaling watercolors, two Lilian Whitteker still life paintings, marine watercolors by H.B. Carter and L.L.
