SARASOTA, FLA. — Sarasota Estate Auction has begun previews for its January 20-21 sale, which will feature art from the late Twentieth Century all the way back to Old Master works, rare works of Asian pottery and approximately 200 lots of sterling silver and jewelry.

Andrew Ford, owner and auctioneer, said his two-day sales with 1,500 to 1,800 lots have become popular as they bring to the marketplace outstanding examples of highly sought-after fine art in many forms, from paintings and sculptures to usable rare objects, such as the antique Asian urns and vases in this next sale.

Ford is featuring art from many recognized important artists of the past few centuries in this sale. William Sontag (1822-1900) was first working in the Ohio Valley, then Italy, but by 1856 he was among the founders of Hudson River School, working primarily with landscapes. His work in this sale is a New Hampshire landscape, which bears a Vose Gallery label on the back. There is a Samuel Lane (1780-1859) portrait of William J. Hope and a piece by English artist Sir Joshua Reynolds in this sale.

Additional important art in the sale includes an abstract by South African artist Francois Krige and several Old Masters from the Seventeenth Century Rembrandt School, all from one collector.

As well as the art, there will be early furniture from the English craftsman Thomas Sedden; Chinese porcelain from Qing and Republic periods and an early Greek krater from the DeYoung Museum, San Francisco. Of course, Ford will have about 200 pieces of sterling silver and estate jewelry as well.
