NEW YORK CITY — The 4th Annual New York Online Antiques Show will be open from Friday, January 26, beginning at noon Eastern, and will be open continuously through Sunday, January 28, at 7 pm. Hundreds of fresh items will be available for sale when the show opens. Dealers add fresh items as items are sold

When the pandemic first hit in 2020, Marvin Getman developed an online platform to run his popular antiques shows and book fairs. His first online show took place three months later in June 2020. His platform quickly took hold as dealers discovered the ease of exhibiting by uploading descriptions and photos of their items to the site before a show. They also discovered that people would “attend” the virtual fairs from all over the world.

Many dealers have reported sales to people on the other side of the United States, and, indeed, some sales have been made to customers in other countries. In his 41 years of producing live shows, Getman had built up an impressive email list that numbered 12,000 at the time and which has grown to 30,000 as customers discovered the shows and signed up to receive notices before each show opens online. People really like the fact that they deal directly with the dealer to complete a transaction. Dealers report that they have found many new customers by participating in these shows.

Getman’s platform has become the “gold standard” of virtual show platforms and is being used by other organizations such as the Ephemera Society of America and SLAM, the professional antiquarian booksellers association in France.
