ALAMEDA, CALIF. — Michaan’s Auctions April gallery auction on Friday, April 19, features furniture pieces from the Asian art department, in addition to works from notable artists and a number of jewelry pieces from the fine art and jewelry departments. The auction is led by the fine art department, which will be offering oil paintings by George Demont Otis and Gideon Jacques Denny, while the Asian art department offers a 12-panel folding screen and a hanging rug. Also included in the sale are platinum, diamond and gold items from the jewelry department.
The fine art department is headlined by the sale of George Demont Otis, “Olema Creek,” oil ($7/10,000), a work from the famed Marin-based landscape painter, as well as Henrietta Berk, “Two Children” (red), oil ($6/8,000), an intensely moving work from the Bay Area Figurative Movement artist. These works will be offered alongside sculptures, including a work from the Circle of Elie Nadelman, “Standing Woman,” bronze ($3/4,000), a large bronze sculpture by Bobbie Carlyle ($1/1,200) and an etching by James A. McNeill Whistler, “Lagoon Noon” ($2,5/3,500), among other works.
The Asian art department will be offering a number of unique furniture pieces, in addition to fine artworks in paper and porcelain. A yellow ground silk “Dragon” hanging rug ($6/8,000) will lead the sale, followed by a large Chinese two-door cabinet ($3/5,000) carved from huanghuali wood and a zitan document tiered box with carry handles ($1,5/2,000). Also on offer is a painting on silk Attributed to Huang Ding (1660-1730) “Landscape” ($5/8,000), as well as a set of four Ohara Koson woodblock prints ($4/6,000) and an attributed to Ogate Korin Japanese painted hanging scroll ($3/5,000). Finally, the department will offer a Chinese large gilt bronze standing figure of a warrior ($2/3,000), a famille rose porcelain Magu statue with base ($1/1,500) and a Chinese peach bloom copper-red glazed meiping vase ($1/1,500).
The jewelry department is highlighting several pieces in this month’s sale, including a diamond, platinum, 18K gold ring ($7/9,000) and a diamond jewelry suite ($3/5,000). Also on the block is a Modernist 14K yellow gold suite ($3/5,000), as well as an 18K yellow gold two- tone bracelet ($3/5,000), an opal, diamond, yellow gold ring ($3,5/4,500) and an 18K yellow gold lady’s necklace ($3,5/4,500). Finally, the department will be offering a pair of matching 24/22K yellow gold bangle bracelets ($2/3,000), a diamond, 18K white gold tennis bracelet ($2/3,000) and an 18K yellow gold jewelry suite ($2/3,000).
The fashion department will be featuring numerous items from luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton. The department will highlight two Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene leather bags ($800-$1,200), as well as a Louis Vuitton monogram leather Sac a Dos Packall ($800-$1,200) and a lot of Louis Vuitton Damier Azur bags and wallets ($700-$1,200).
Also on offer, a Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM Damier Ebene leather bag ($600-$1,000), a collection of Louis Vuitton bags, wallets and scarves ($600-$1,000) and a Louis Vuitton Artsy MM beige monogram leather bag ($500/900).
The furniture and decorative department is highlighting a collection of 13 rolls of historic Art Nouveau panoramic wallpaper ($5/8,000), as well as musical instruments, including an example from Yamaha, the Yamaha baby grand piano ($3/5,000) and a vintage Selmer Mark VI soprano saxophone ($3/5,000). Also, on offer is an Art Deco-style custom birch veneer dining table ($1,5/2,500) a pair of Richard Schultz, by Knoll 1966 two-seat sofas ($1,5/2,000). Also from Richard Schultz, the department will be offering a 1966 buffet table with glass top ($1,5/2,000).
