GUILFORD, CONN. — Lotus International Auctions will host an online-only spring fine art auction on April 28 at noon, EST. All bidding will be done through LiveAuctioneers. Bidding has already started.
The auction has 425 artworks: oil paintings, watercolors, etchings, lithographs, Midcentury Modern, gilded carved frames, 1950 French-style inlaid mahogany and leather faux book side tables, “Tempus Fugit” grandfather clock, cast iron mechanical banks, Handel table lamp, Japanese woodblocks and a choice of original The Golden Book History of the United States illustrations and historic “A.D. 42” oil painting.
A William Merritt Chase still life with fish is a great example of his talent.
Julian Alden Weir, flowers in a glass vase oil painting, reminds us spring is here. Maung Maung Thein street scene and Ngugen Duc Manh abstract are well known Vietnamese artists. Harry Leslie Hoffman focuses on different water scenes, a river with a dam and a cascading waterfall. Donald Roy Purdy has four eye-catching impressionistic artworks from which to choose. Alto S. Tobey represents the brutal history done to Jewish people in Germany in 1942, with his painting titled “A.D. 42.” It is a powerful work of art.
There are more fresh illustrations from The Golden Book History of the United States by Alton S. Tobey. Tobey had a full career as an illustrator for Life magazine, 350 paintings for The Golden Book United States History and many other books and periodicals. Tobey has works in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, National Museum of American Illustration and many others. Frederic Walperswyler has modern watercolor Minimalist artworks.
Other artists include, Joseph Antonio Hekking, George Merkel, Harry Lang Barton, Alexandro Siches, primitive portraits, Nunzio Vayana, Gilbert Smith, Ruth Merrill and Alfred Birdsey.
