Buzz Hesse – Part III, Important Antiques & Fine Arts Unreserved Auction
Saturday, January 4, 2025 10:00 AM
American Legion Hall, 22 Union St., Sidney, NY
SIDNEY, N.Y. — Part three of the lifetime collection of Dr Constantine Zariphes, Jr, from Rocky Hill, Conn., will be a departure from the Zariphes part one and part two auctions, which featured outstanding Native American artifacts and art. Part three, however, is an offering of wonderful early Americana antiques, fine art and accessories from the Eighteenth and early Nineteenth Centuries. This selection will be sold in an unreserved auction on Saturday, January 4, at the Sidney, N.Y., American Legion Hall at 22 Union Street, conducted by Buzz Hesse Antiques and Appraisals.
Zariphes procured and surrounded himself with an amazing collection of quality antiques which complimented his 1767 three-story brick colonial home in Old Rocky Hill. His studied interests in historical antiques were put to use in scouring antiques establishments and auctions to find the multitudes of treasures which enhanced his stately, handsome home.
The antiques in Zariphes’ collection were diverse, though they had some focused themes. Many fine paintings, especially marine paintings and some wonderful landscapes, were to be found throughout his house. Early furniture of the period was complimented by various fine bronzes and early ceramics and glassware, especially flasks and bottles. Folk art carvings including songbirds, duck decoys and fish decoys were another of Zariphes’ interests, as well as early edged weapons and militaria.
Whale oil and candle lighting devices were another category Zariphes enjoyed collecting, along with choice woodenware and wrought iron kitchen and hearth accessories. Steeple clocks, mantel clocks, tall case clocks and several weathervanes are also included in this auction.
The auction will offer 350 lots to be sold without reserve beginning at 10 am. Previews will be held Friday, January 3 from 10 am to 4 pm, and from 8 am on Saturday, January 4.
