Our first auction of 2016 promises to be a sweetheart of a sale, as we will be offering an amazing and diverse collection of fine art, antiques and estate jewelry gathered from homes throughout New England Saturday will feature important sculpture, including a marble statue by Chauncey Bradley Ives, a group of early European and Asian pieces, and works depicting Classical themes. We will also present paintings by John Ingersoll Coggeshall, Cornelis De Heem, Frank Shapleigh, Emile Eisman-Semenowsky, James Webb, Adolf Schreyer, Robert Farren, and Lucas Van Leyden; plus a selection of fine military portraits by Etienne Proper Berne-Bellecour. Important prints by J. J. Audubon, Pierre Auguste Renoir, and Andy Warhol will also be offered; along with ship paintings by William Yorke and Antonio Jacobsen. A Charles Looff carousel horse, full body running horse and eagle weathervanes, two carved eagles, and a variety of decoys will lead the folk art group, and the marine category will include 19 ship models and 13 lots of scrimshaw.
Antique furniture will include rare American, English and Continental pieces. A selection of early English porcelain, including several US commemoratives of the War of 1812, and a group of rare books, featuring a 1632 King James Bible, will be offered. Asian antiques will include collections of early porcelain, furniture, metalwork, paintings, and carved stone pieces. Rounding out the day will be groups of Native American artifacts, early silver, and oriental carpets.
Sunday’s sale will include artwork by Haddon Sundblom, Stephen Etnier, Will Davis, Leonard John Pierce, Vladimir Sokolov, and Sergio Moyano, plus works by contemporary Maine artists David Tutwiler, Ronal Parlin, Stapleton Kearns, and Frank Handlen; and there will be a large collection of outstanding bronze sculptures. On this da y we will feature a set of 11 rare Mathew Brady Civil War photos depicting Gettysburg scenes, a group of original 1960s Huey Newton/Black Panthers protest posters, and a diverse selection of firearms and military items. An excellent array of decorative items will be presented, including furniture of the 19th and 20th c., fine American and European art glass and pottery, antique lighting, early clocks, and ornamental metal ware, such as 2 bronze Tiffany desk sets. There will be many fine examples of Japanese paintings, netsuke and okimono carvings, porcelain, and metalwork. And perfect for Valentine’s Day, we will present an extensive collection of fine estate jewelry and watches, plus an array of finely crafted silver.
