As we welcome spring (finally!) and snowbirds back to Maine, we’re excited to present an amazing selection of rare and decorative items gathered from homes throughout New England for our May 21 & 22 auction.
On Saturday, we will feature paintings by John Stobart, Joseph Smith, Georges Francois Langee, William Sidney Mount, Talbot Aldrich, David Johnson, Thomas Curtin, and John Patrick Haverty; plus outstanding sculptures including a full-length carrara marble statue of George Washington and a Renaissance period carved wooden angel. There will be outstanding American folk art, such as a 19th c. full body bull weathervane, cat and horse form carousel figures, a Federal period ship’s figurehead, and an intricately carved story cane. Important antiquities, including a rare 1st c. BC gold and emerald ring, a necklace composed of 12 gold Byzantine coins, and a Cycladic figure of a man, will be offered, along with an Old Paris porcelain dessert set by Nast and a collection of early Continental ceramic inkwells. We will also present a large group of fine antique furniture and early clocks. Large selections of Asian artifacts, early silver, historic documents, ship models, and oriental carpets will round out the day.
Sunday’s sale will include artwork by Angel Barro Botello, Dewitt Lockman, Henriette Ronner, Frank Charles Peyraud, Joe Brainard, and Yanzhou Xu; plus a nice selection of bronze sculptures. On this day, we will offer a wonderful and diverse selection of estate jewelry, led by an 18K gold and multicolor diamond necklace and a 2.95ct diamond and platinum ring. There will be two Birkin bags by Hermes and a 19th c. bronze jewelry casket with inset micro mosaic panels. An outstanding selection of silver and decorative objects will be presented, including: a large set of Georg Jensen Acorn pattern flatware; a 256-piece set of Herend Rothschild Bird pattern china; and art glass by Tiffany, Daum Nancy, Baccarat, and others. A nice selection of 19th and 20th c. furniture, including designer pieces by Therien Studios of Los Angeles, will be offered, along with groups of Native American artifacts, firearms, rare books & documents, Japanese items, fine time pieces, and early lighting. Groups of bisque head dolls and toy lead soldiers will also be sold. Finally, there will be 2 automobiles, a 1992 Bentley Turbo and 2003 Mercedes Benz cabriolet, and 17 boats, led by a Carver 36 Aft cabin cruiser.
