The estate auctioneering firm of Gustave White Co. in Newport, Rhode Island, was established in 1926. In observance and
celebration, Gustave White Co. will conduct a 90th Anniversary auction on December 28 at its two galleries in Portsmouth, RI.
This will be the largest sale held by the firm in many years, and will feature the partial contents of “Fairholme,” one of the great Newport mansions, together with the antique furnishings of two other Newport estates. Please Note: This will be the largest auction that Gustave White has held in many years, and you may enter either gallery, as both are fi lled to maximum capacity with furnishings and antiques from three Newport mansions, most notably “Fairholme”, the former home of Anita O’Keefe Young. Among the offerings: German automaton tall clock, H: 8’ 8”, English and French clocks, Hudson Valley kas, 18th and 19th Century American furniture (lowboys, tavern tables, bedsteads, hutches mirrors), Continental demi-lune tables in pairs, set of 8 New Hampshire Chippendale chairs, Trosby 3-pedestal table, George E. Vernon furniture, Newport Queen Anne dropleaf table, corner cupboards, chandeliers, marquetry and marbletop pieces, Adirondack suite, ferneries, bronzes, many sconces, whaling artifacts, decoys. Paintings by William Staples Drown, Richard Grosvenor, Mario Maresca, Cesare Ricciardi, Eugene Leslie Smythe, E. Porter Vinton, William G. Wall, 8 Japanese Spaniel paintings by L. Tiffany.
