After 50+ years of collecting straight razors, Robert A. Doyle will be offering at auction his life-time collection of fancy and unusual straight razors. There are many 18thC & 19thC examples with fancy handles such as Mother of Pearl, sterling silver, carved ivory, pressed horn, tortoise shell, aluminum, gold mounted, matched pairs, presentation pieces & sets, 7-day sets, grooming kits, large display razors, showcases & ephemera. Many blades are etched with advertising, patriotic slogans, illustrations of ships, exhibitions, busts of famous people, designs of all kinds. The first session of 240 lots, up for bid now are all the finest unique handled razors featured in Doyle’s book Celluloid Handle Guide for Straight Razor Collectors, reflecting on Fifty Years of Handle Designs 1870-1920, published in 2005. Also offered are additional pieces that were found after the book was published and some original cutlery advertising display cases.
