PHILADELPHIA — A 1920s Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre “Bubbles II” Malfrey pot, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones (1881-1945) earned the top price of $20,160 when it was offered in Freeman’s February 15 sale, titled “All the Variety and Perfection: The Wedgwood Collection of Dr Ellis F. Rubin & Suzanne Borow Rubin.” The 7¼-inch-tall pot, which was inscribed “Z5257” and bore the Wedgwood Portland Vase mark, had been acquired by the Rubins at an auction at Skinner’s in 2005 and was comparable to an example published in Una Des Fontaines’ Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre (Born-Hawes, New York, 1975). It was the top price in a 249-lot sale that was more than 91 percent sold. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium. An upcoming issue will feature a more detailed review of the sale.
