The apex of subway-themed haute couture is on display at the New York Transit Museum’s Gallery Annex through February 27 in a special exhibition titled “Fashion Underground: Transit-inspired Accessories.” Reflecting the beauty, elegance and artistry of the NYC Subway system, the nine unique accessories donated by their designers pay tribute to the form and function of one of the country’s most iconic symbols, the New York City Subway. With an accessories theme, the nine whimsical and functional fashion masterpieces were created and donated by top designers from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), The designers are: Simon Alcantra, Kenneth Cole, Stephen Dweck, Colette Malouf, Matt Murphy, Judith Ripka, Michael Simon, Lambertson Truex and Gerard Yosca. Also through February 27, the public may participate in an online silent auction for these items at www.mta.info/ nyct/fashion. The winning bidder of each item will receive a one-of-a-kind fashion accessory, a certificate of authenticity and a limited edition MetroCard designed and autographed by the item’s creator. Proceeds will benefit the New York Transit Museum’s collections, exhibitions and educational programs.
