WHIPPLE, OHIO — Items from the personal collections of Ohio folk art dealer Chuck Auerbach, and his Grammy-award winning son and member of The Black Keys, Dan Auerbach, were offered for auction by Meander Auctions (formerly Ohio Company Antiques) on October 28. The 212-lot sale featured a broad range of categories and was about 80 percent sold by lot. According to Andrew Richmond, company owner, said after the sale, “The top lot, and also the biggest surprise, was the Owl Garden Lantern, which earned $4,920, including buyer’s premium and sold to a LiveAuctioneers bidder.” The lantern in question dated to the early Twentieth Century and was in cast iron in the unusual form of an owl perched on a stump, measuring 36 inches high; it had carried an estimate of $200/400. Watch for an upcoming issue when more highlights from this sale will be discussed in greater detail.
