DALLAS, TEXAS — The original pen and ink cover illustration for the first issue of Swamp Thing will hit the block at Heritage Auction’s Comics & Comic Art Auction on August 4-6, with this lot to sell on the second day. Bernie Wrightson’s first issue of Swamp Thing marked the first time the DC Comics character Alec Holland ever appeared. Heritage calls it “one of the most iconic horror covers ever produced.” As of this writing, current asking price is $107,550. Other original Wrightson works are also in the sale.
