Francis J. Mikalonis Jr, 64, of West Granby, formerly of Windsor Locks, Conn., beloved husband of Valerie (Mathews) Mikalonis, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 21, after a courageous battle with cancer. He loved renovating his home and antiquing, but most of all he loved his family.
He was born on March 29, 1947, in Hartford, Conn., to Mary (Karpenski) Mikalonis and the late Francis J. Mikalonis. Fran grew up in Windsor Locks and had served his country honorably as a member of the US Air Force in Vietnam. He retired from the Dexter Corporation in Windsor Locks after 27 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved his hunting and fishing. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Valerie and his mother Mary, Fran leaves his children, Jennifer J. Devine and her husband Peter of Windsor Locks; Jason T. “J.T.” Mikalonis and his wife Denise of Colchester; and his twins, Francis J. Mikalonis III and Anna Mary Mikalonis, both of West Granby. He also leaves his brother, David J. Mikalonis and his wife Cheryl of Windsor Locks; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Maryssa, Mackenzie, Sydney and Peyton, as well as several cousins, but especially his cousin Richard Merlo who was like a brother to Fran.
Services will be conducted May 27 at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, Granby, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Therese Roman Catholic Church in Granby and burial with military honors in Granby Cemetery.
