CINCINNATI, OHIO — Between March 14-15, Freeman’s | Hindman auctioned exactly 650 lots, 257 of them in the second part of the Americana collection of Donald F. Moylan, MD, and the remaining 393 lots in a various owners’ sale that was anchored by the Tallmadge, Ohio, Americana and Ohio stoneware collection of Robert and Nancy Triechler. A portrait of a boy holding a book by William W. Kennedy, painted in 1846 and signed by the artist, was the top lot of the Moylan collection, earning $19,050. The following day, top-lot status was reached by a carved and painted pine tobacco store figure that was unattributed and stood 50 inches tall; bidders ran it to $17,780. Both prices quoted include the buyer’s premium as reported by the auction and house; more of the top prices from each sale will be the focus of an upcoming auction review.
