NEW YORK CITY — A Roberto Clemente 1960 Pirates World Championship year game-worn jersey (SGC Excellent) sold for $256,714, a 1997-98 Michael Jordan Metal Universe Championship Precious Metal Gems PSA NM-MT 8 netted $232,847 and a Ted Williams 1942 Red Sox game-worn, photo-matched jersey from his first Triple Crown season fetched $191,563 in the Lelands 2024 Winter Classic Auction, which closed on March 16.
The auction’s top lot, the Roberto Clemente Pirates 1960 World Series-winning season game-worn jersey was sold with a full SGC authentication book. During that historic season, Clemente batted .314 with 94 RBI, leading the Pirates to their first championship in 35 years. An incredibly important piece, this gray vest-style button-front top received a grade of excellent from SGC, the second-highest grade attainable.

PSA graded near mint–mint 8, this 1997-98 Metal Universe Championship Basketball Precious Metal Gems #23 Michael Jordan card netted $232,847.
The 1997-98 Metal Universe Championship Michael Jordan Precious Metal Gems headlined the sale’s Golden Age Collection, a hobby fresh offering of more than 100 important inserts from the greatest era of modern sports card collecting, starting in 1993 and running through the early 2000s. This Jordan card marked the first time since 2020 that a PSA-graded example of it came to auction.

Achieving $191,563 was this Ted Williams game-worn Boston Red Sox jersey from 1942, his first American League Triple-Crown season. The catalog notes that the jersey was gifted to “an avid female fan who was a permanent fixture at Fenway Park, famously sitting behind the Red Sox dugout for all home games.” It had been in her family’s possession since Williams gave it to her in 1942.
The Ted Williams 1942 Triple Crown Red Sox game-worn, photo-matched jersey was offered with both Mears Authentication and Resolution Photomatching certification documents. During that epic season, Williams hit .356 with 36 home runs and 137 RBI to capture his first of two Triple Crowns. The only known Splendid Splinter jersey from 1942, this hobby fresh gem was sourced from a family who had owned it since that season.

This 14K gold Kentucky Derby Winner’s Trophy was presented to the owner of Strike the Gold in 1991. The trophy, made by Lemon & Son Louisville, Ky., was sold with a 9-pound custom-made solid jade display base for $165,479.
Among other auction highlights were a 1991 Kentucky Derby Owner’s Trophy ($165,479), a circa 1920s Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig dual-signed Yankees original photograph graded by PSA as Type 1 Authentic with mint 9 autographs ($131,066), a Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner signed baseball ($102,694) and a Sidney Crosby 2005-06 rookie year Penguins game-worn, photo-matched jersey ($86,464).

This Wilson Official League baseball featured the rare autograph pairing of Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner. Crossing the block for $102,694, the ball also included the signatures of Al Simmons and George Earnshaw.
The auction also featured a signed 1949 Bowman Baseball Jackie Robinson #50 card, PSA Authentic Auto 9 ($85,772); a Pete Rose 1976 Reds World Championship year signed, game-worn jersey ($41,477); a Ted Williams 1940s Red Sox game-used jacket ($40,920); a Lynn Swann Steelers game-worn jersey photo-matched to November 27, 1978, when he had a season-high 134 yards and two touchdowns ($37,620); a Brian Leetch 1994 Stanley Cup Playoffs Rangers signed, game-worn and photo-matched jersey ($37,620); and a Jerry Lucas 1960-62 Ohio State Buckeyes game-worn jersey ($31,676).

Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig were photographed posing together in uniform on the field during spring training for the Yankees circa 1920s. The PSA Type 1 Authentic photograph bore mint 9 autographs from both players and hit $131,066.
