BOSTON — Dozens of paintings and pieces of fine jewelry sold for more than $10,000 each at Grogan’s November 5-6 sale but Gaston Lachaise’s 1918 bronze, “Equestrienne,” earned the top price at $200,000. The subject matter is characteristic of the work the artist is known for. Not too far behind in price was a platinum and diamond ring that brought $193,750. The 13.79-carat diamond was accompanied by a GIA report attesting to the quality of the stone. There were also well over 100 paintings in the sale, with one by Alex Katz and one by Gertrude Abercrombie each earning $100,000. Asian lots earned the top three prices of the decorative arts portion of the sale. A future issue will include a recap of both sales; prices quoted include the buyer’s premium.
