THOMASTON, ME. – Cataloged as the work of Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828), an unsigned oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman, handsome and elegantly attired, turned heads at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries on November 18. The top lot in Kaja Veilleux’s three-day juggernaut finished at $76,050 including premium after a battle between two phone bidders. A Russian silver and cloisonné enameled and jeweled kovsh made between 1896 and 1908 achieved $23,400 on November 19, the sale’s third and final day.
