DALLAS — Of the many unique artifacts offered at Heritage Auctions during its Americana & Political Signature auction on February 25, the highest price was achieved with a compass that was personally owned by frontiersman Daniel Boone. The compass had a storied provenance Boone gave the compass as a congratulatory gift to young Abraham Miller, who used the shooting lessons Boone taught him to shoot a panther that was hunting his family’s cattle. From Miller, the compass was passed to many different owners, all recorded, until it sold at Heritage for $109,375. Price quoted with buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house, more on this and other successful lots to follow.
