DALLAS — Heritage Auctions’ 205-lot Fine Silver & Objects of Vertu sale took place on November 16; three Tiffany & Co flatware sets were among the top lots. A 135-piece service for 12, in the Lap-Over-Edge pattern, (shown) easily took first place in the sale at $237,500 and caused a lot of excitement among bidders. The pattern is an extremely difficult pattern to find, especially in such large quantities; it rarely comes to auction, the last large set offered at auction was at Christie’s in 1987. The other two flatware top lots were a 220-piece Chrysanthemum pattern set and a 400-piece Olympian pattern set, which fetched $20,000 and $17,500, respectively. More top lots of the sale included a John Samuel Hunt silver equestrian sculpture for Hunt & Roskell called “The Falconer” and the Horseman Cup, a Gorham Mfg. Co silver horseracing trophy. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house. A more extensive sale recap will appear in a future issue.
