DALLAS — Heritage Auctions conducted its Ethnographic Art: Property From An Important New York Collection Signature® auction on June 15, accruing more than half a million dollars from just 37 lots.
The top lot was a superb Quimbaya gold pendant, finely crafted from gold alloy or tumbaga. Suspension holes on either side of the face indicate that it was most likely the centerpiece of a necklace strung with gold or gemstone beads. This work belongs to a small group of rarities; a slightly larger example exists in the British Museum, another in Bogota’s Museo de Oro and one more in a private American collection. Heritage considers this pendant to be the finest of all due to its excellent condition and sculptural quality. The pendant closed at $118,750.
