FREEPORT, MAINE — Casco Bay Auctions’ 2025 March Americana auction, conducted on March 8, featured more than 630 lots of early American furniture and fine and decorative arts. Incidentally, the top lot of the auction was won by an oil on canvas painting by French artist Orville Hoyt Root (Nineteenth/Twentieth Century). The impressionist landscape, which measured 52½ by 64 inches, depicted the South of France and was stamped on its reverse for “Paul Foinet Fils.” In very good condition, the work was bid well beyond its $600/900 estimate and ultimately settled with a local buyer for $3,840, including buyer’s premium. Additional highlights from the auction will be in an upcoming issue.
