SWAMPSCOTT, MASS. — In an on-site event conducted at Anchorage House, 2 Lincoln House Point, on November 9, Kaminski Auctions presented more than 530 lots of antiques from the estate’s collection. The auction was led by a marine painting by Joseph Mallord William Turner (English, 1775-1851). The work, which was titled, signed and dated “Shipwreck — Wales / J.M.W. Turner / 1805” on the reverse, also included a dedication inscription reading, “To my friend the Earl of [illegible].” Measuring 38 by 33 inches framed, the work was bid to $21,600 including buyer’s premium, more than doubling its $10,000 high estimate and selling to a buyer over the phone. More details of this result and others will be featured in a future issue.
