The two top lots of the day were a set of 12 Chinese paintings, mounted in foldout book, selling at $50,000 and a GIA-certified marquise 3.34-carat diamond ring in a platinum setting, which went for $34,375. The set of Chinese paintings came with a with receipt from E&J Frankel, N.Y., and was estimated at just $800-$1,200. Silver was also successful; a Nineteenth Century Russian silver samovar of generous proportions, with fine checker pattern and neoclassical frieze bone handles marked “1896,” achieved $8,125 ($8/10,000). A large neoclassical-style gilt bronze chandelier, with a ribbon motif standard above laurel leaf and berry garland swags between pendant lights festooned with rows of pendant prisms exceeded its low estimate at $2,375 ($2/3,000).
