MONROVIA, CALIF. — John Moran Auctioneers conducted its Art of the American West sale on November 16, offering more than 350 lots of fine art, decorative arts and artifacts of the American West. The top of these was “Dry Air,” a contemporary oil painting by Logan Maxwell Hagege (b 1980), who defines his depictions of the American Southwest as “stylized realism.” Hagege focuses on the details of his scenes, whether they be visual or evocative, and strips light and forms to their “essence to reveal and to celebrate their natural complexity.” These principals were apparent in the painting, which rose to $22,500. A more extensive review to follow.
