LITCHFIELD, CONN. — More than 600 lots were featured in Litchfield Auctions’ February 5 antiques and design sale, which featured a large selection of lots from the Cornwall, Conn., estate of Thomas Johnson Hubbard and Anne Attfield Hubbard. The Hubbards’ highest-selling lot was also the highlight of the day: an oil on canvas landscape of the White Mountains in New Hampshire by Jasper Cropsey (American, 1823-1900). After extensive bidding, the 17¾-by-25¾-inch work sold to a private collector from New Hampshire — who was making their first purchase from the auction house — for $193,750, including buyer’s premium, a significant advance over its $50/80,000 estimate. More highlights from this sale will appear in an upcoming issue.
