PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Ron Bourgeault’s Northeast Auctions’ sale on August 18–19 drew large crowds and strong prices for Pilgrim century furniture and accessories, other American furniture, American paintings, historical documents and China trade material. Topping the weekend sale was a Vermont landscape by Luigi Lucioni (1900–1988) titled “Pillars of Vermont.” Depicting an aged barn and red silos with Lake Champlain in the background, it sold for $98,400 and was the basis for an etching of the same title by the artist; another painting by the artist sold for $76,800. American furniture did well, with a circa 1716 Hadley chest earning $49,200 and a circa 1760 Philadelphia Chippendale carved walnut highboy realizing $26,400.
