A brilliantly colored Tiffany Studios “Russian Shade” lamp made in 1910, consigned from a Needham estate, sailed out of the sale room at Grogan & Company this past Sunday, May 2, when it brought $115,000.
The lamp, which sold after lively bidding to a New York collector/dealer, had been a gift to Elizabeth Bradford Storer, whose estate was sold to benefit the music programs of the First Parish in Needham.
Another gift to Storer was the oil on canvas “View of Meredith, New Hampshire, Lake Winnipesaukee and the White Mountains” by Edward C. Coates that brought $40,250 and will benefit the same program. Storer was a philanthropist in the Boston area who also endowed a chair at the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
A full report of the sale will appear in a future issue.
