MARION, MASS. — Best-in-show at Marion Antique Auctions’ Summer Extravaganza two-day auction, August 19-20, was an early Twentieth Century 18K gold two-handled footed cup by Marcus & Co, which overflowed its $8/12,000 estimate to bring $25,200 from a trade buyer in Massachusetts. Combining elements of both the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau styles, and in the form of Greco-Roman kylix, it was incised with the letters FS and cataloged as being in the style of Charles Robert Ashbee. It was the top price of approximately 800 lots offered. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house; more details of this sale will be discussed in an upcoming issue.
