DENVER, PENN. — A German Marklin hand painted open two seat roadster was the top lot at Morphy Auctions December 16-17 Toy, Doll and Figural Cast Iron auction, selling for $90,000 including the buyer’s premium. With a $30/40,000 estimate on the rated excellent-to-near-mint condition example, the roadster sold to a floor bidder against competing phone lines. This piece, and many others in the sale, hailed from the collection of Investment Rarities Inc., whose discerning collection consisted of examples in impeccable condition with near complete and original paint. The roadster dated to circa 1905 and featured a blueish green enameled color with accented striping. At its rear, the car featured an open tool compartment and a leather strapped rubber spare tire. Before Investment Rarities, Inc., the piece was in the Donald Kaufman Collection.
