MARLBOROUGH, MASS. — Bonhams Skinner presented two Americana auctions — a live sale on August 13 and an online one that closed August 14 — for a total of 574 lots in a myriad of subcategories of furniture, folk art, flags and decorative arts. The highest price of the two-day hybrid event was a modern Mason Bogie #15 “Breckenridge” live steam model locomotive that had been built by Larry Vance in North Weymouth, Mass., in 2008. The 2½-scale lot, which was described as “exceptional,” was fully operational and coal-fired and accompanied by full schematics and build details. It sold within estimate for $51,200. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house; watch for a more extensive review in a future issue.
