The Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA) recently renovated photography galleries have an installation from the museum’s permanent collection that brings together groupings of closely related pictures. Organized by Eva Respini, from MoMA’s department of photography, the exhibition will be on view to March 3 at The Edward Steichen Photography Galleries.
Since the medium’s inception, photographers have explored its ease in producing multiple images to create sequences, consider various aspects of a single object and accumulate pictures that together define a larger subject. This installation includes groups of photographs by Eadweard J. Muybridge, Alfred Stieglitz, August Sander, Harry Callahan, Diane Arbus, Thomas Struth and Roni Horn, among others.
The Edward Steichen Photography Galleries are devoted to a rotating selection of outstanding photographs from the museum’s collection. Each new display is organized differently, but all aim to suggest the vitality and richness of photography’s creative traditions.
